June 17, 1919 – November 25, 2021
Adolph "Dutch" Amedee was born on June 17, 1919, in Vacherie, Louisiana. He was the second of nine children to his parents, Jean Desire and Marie Azelie Amedee. He grew up in Southern Louisiana, and helped his family run their grocery store by delivering ice for ice boxes, prior to widespread use of mechanical refrigeration. He joined the US Army Air Corps (now known as the Air Force) in October of 1940 and served until November of 1945. He worked as a cook and baker during his service, and for ten months he was stationed in Guam in the Pacific Theater of WWII. He met his wife, Evelyn, in Baton Rouge, and they were married on November 1 st , 1941. They had four children and remained married for 79 years until his death. After his military service, he worked and attended college. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial education from Southern Missionary College in 1955. He then began his career of teaching and taught at several different schools until his retirement in 1981. After retiring, he continued to work part time delivering papers for the Benton Courier for many years.
Dutch enjoyed spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking which was an activity he began to love as a child cooking with his mother. He was also an avid reader, and he loved to read about Jesus in particular. He would spend hours reading his Bible. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church for most of his life, and he loved to make food for church potlucks. He also enjoyed working with his hands gardening and building and even built his own home. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones. He was known for his kind and generous spirit. His battle with serious medical issues over the last few months demonstrated his courage in facing adversity with a smile.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jean Desire and Azelie Amedee, his brothers Percy Amedee, Dudley "Red" Amedee, Jean Desire "J.D." Amedee, Leroy Amedee, Donald Amedee, and his sisters Doris D'Amico and Joyce Amedee.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Amedee, his daughter, Barbara Wellman, son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lois Amedee, daughter, Linda Baumbach, daughter, Diana Amedee, brother, Kenneth Amedee, grandchildren, Jacob, Ruben, Cherri, Dawn, Francis, Christie, as well as great and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 2:30pm at the Little Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church, 8700 N Rodney Parham Rd, Little Rock, AR 72205.
