Obituary

ALONZO McCLELLAN "BUDDY" VOUGHT age 89, of Bryant, Arkansas, passed away on June 23, 2009, at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock after a lengthy illness. He was born on July 10, 1919, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo "Mack" and Artelia Vought, a twin sister, Elizabeth "Sissy" Carlisle, a nieces, Marsha Carlisle and Edwene Suddath, and a nephew, Billy Carlisle. He was a WWII veteran who served in the Army as a Sgt. in the 803rd Engineers during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he became an Arkansas State trooper assigned to Troop F in Warren he retired as a bus driver for Greyhound. In 1946 while Anna Kathleen "Kay" Grice was in nurses training in Pine Bluff, he saw her walking along the sidewalk and remarked to himself, "I can't let her get away from me." After making numerous phone calls to Kay, the couple began dating and later in 1946 they were married and remained married for 62 years. He and Kay lived in several cities in Texas, including Mesquite, Texas, before moving to Pine Bluff. They moved to Bryant in 2004. He was a member of the Bryant United Methodist Church and, prior to moving to Bryant, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff where he served as an usher. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a caring grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend to all who knew him. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed his family, playing golf, attending sports events, gardening and spending time at the family cabin.

He is survived by his wife, Kay, his daughters, Anna Elizabeth Ogden (Joe) of Bryant, Sheila Diane Glover (Marion) of Pine Bluff, and his son, Mack Vought (June) of Little Rock and nephew, George Yahnke. Surviving grandchildren include Matthew Vought of Bryant, Kim Sullivan (Matt) of Little Rock, Kristy Vought of Little Rock, Leabeth Glover of Pine Bluff, Kim Ogden of Little Rock, and Kyle Ogden of Little Rock, and three great-grandchildren, Lorren Glover of Pine Bluff, Caleb Ogden of Little Rock, and Brinlee Sullivan of Little Rock, and one sister, Alene White of Helena-West Helena.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday the 25th at 10:30 a.m. at the Graves Cemetery on Mt. Elba Road near New Edinburgh, Arkansas with the Reverend Todd-Paul Taulbee officiating. Pallbearers will be Jamie, Robb, Randy and Hubert Giles, Dwayne Lackey and Kyle Ogden. Honorary pallbearers will be Prestand Jordan and Jerome Alford. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock, the Bryant First United Methodist Church or to the America Heart Association. The family expresses its gratitude to the physicians and nursing staff, particularly the staff of the Arkansas Hospice Center, which cared for Mr. Vought and to the Rev.
