Obituary

Bennie Jean Howard Corrigan, age 71 of the East End/Sardis communities entered heaven's gates Wednesday, February 24th.  No doubt she was greeted by her Savior, her father Harold "Buck" Howard, Mother Jean Wilkerson Howard, and brothers Clarence and "Johnny" Howard.  Her beloved husband Carroll of 53 years, daughter Diana Reaves (Steve), son Jeff Corrigan (Linda), sisters Connie Detherage (Tom) and Netha Howard, grandchildren Logan Corrigan, Steve Reaves, Jared Corrigan, Ruthie Reaves as well as her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews look forward to their heavenly reunion with her.  Her listening ear, calm voice of reason and beautiful smile will definitely be missed. Those who knew her, knew how much she loved her family and how proud of them she was.  In her younger years she loved playing softball with family and friends.  She was known to throw a mean spiral in her powder puff football days.  She served as a den mother for Diana's girl scout troop and coached many of her softball teams.  She was a great supporter of Jeff's boy scout troop and loved watching his baseball games.  She enriched the lives of all who knew her including the students she tutored in reading and math at East End Elementary for 19 years.  She was a long-time active member of East Union MBC until joining Fairview MBC, both at which she served as a Sunday school teacher and church camp sponsor. She loved participating in the church choir and cantadas throughout those years as well.  She and Carroll enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Arkansas state parks, and both loved cheering on the Razorbacks athletic teams.  Branson could have been a second home for her with numerous trips yearly including Southern Gospel week with her sisters.  Fishing and hunting were some of her favorite past times as were attending the grandkids musical and sporting events. A time of visitation with the family will be held Monday, March 1st 6-8 pm at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church.  Her remembrance service will be officiated by Dr. Paul Carter on Tuesday, March 2nd at 12:30 pm at the church.  Her son, son-in-law, grandsons, brother-in-law, Clarence "Hoser" and Stephen Howard will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers are Drew Detherage, Ben, and Austin Howard. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to either the Salem Cemetery Fund or Fairview MBC Church Camp Fund.
