IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Oliver
Long
July 6, 1961 – January 11, 2023
The world became a brighter place on July 6th, 1961, the day that Charles "Chuck" Oliver Long was born. Chuck sadly passed away in the hospital on January 11th, 2023, at the age of 61 surrounded by family after a battle with illness. He will be sorely missed.
In 1978, he graduated from McClellan High School. Following that, he worked with Kolor Print until 1991 eventually becoming the Team Leader and Night Shift Chrome Plant Supervisor until the company went out of business. Then in the fall of 1991, he went to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to work on his degree, where he became the Class Representative to the Student Government and the Student Council Vice-President, along with getting on both the Dean's List and Chancellor's List in the process of getting his Associate of Science in Biomedical Instrumentation. Following his graduation, he started at Service Professionals as a Biomed Specialist eventually becoming the Technical Support Supervisor in 1995. He worked there for almost 7 years before joining the team at GE Healthcare in 2000 where he worked there until the day he died.
He had many hobbies including practicing Martial Arts, especially Isshin-ryu; playing video games, mainly the Doom and Quake series – though primarily the original Doom – yes, Doom can run on everything; playing cards especially Poker with family or even more so with suckers. Not only that he loved cameras, working on cars, collecting, and practicing with guns and of course, redheads. Though even more so he loved his family, both by blood and by covenant.
He was survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda "Lynn" Long; his son, Christopher "Chris" Long; his siblings, Laurin McLaurin, Laurine McLaurin, Connie Ringer, Linda Henson; his goddaughters, Tia Pippen and Rebecca "Becky" Jackson-Banuelos; and many nieces and nephews along with many friends that have become family. He follows his parents and his daughter, Amy Long.
To honor Chuck's memory, we are holding a celebration of his life on January 21st, 2023, at The Farm from 1300 until the last embers of the bonfire goes out. We invite anyone who knew him to attend and remember his wonderful life. We ask attendees to wear bright colors. If anyone wishes to give flowers, uncut, still living flowers that can be replanted or a donation to have a tree planted are strongly encouraged.
