Obituary

Charles Samuel Waters, 81, took his journey back home to the Lord, on May 25, 2018. As an ordained minister, Charles served in every way that he could to lift those around him.

Charles was born on Friday, November 27, 1936, in Hensley, Arkansas, to Robert Ismael Waters and Effie Jewel Jernigan Waters. He is preceded in death by both his parents; two brothers, Robert Lewis Waters and Benjamin F. Waters; his wife, Johnnie Lee Waters.

In 1956, he graduated Prattsville High School and joined the United States Air Force. In the Air Force he trained as an aircraft and large engine mechanic. He was stationed in Guam and Goose Bay Labrador.

In August 1961, Charles married Nancy Ann Hardin and they had three children, Shela, Chris and Melody. On the 25 th of November, 1970, he married the love of his life, Johnnie Lee Sutton and she was his sweetheart for 44 years.

In addition to working as a mechanic for International Harvester, Charles was an active volunteer firefighter. His first volunteer firefighting community was in Shannon Hills, then the family moved to Woodland Hills, now known commonly as city of Alexander in 1976 and Charles served on the Woodland Hills Volunteer Fire Department.

Papaw, as he was known, is survived by his three children, Shela Burnside, Chris Waters, and Melody Lusk, as well as his step-children Darlene Cates, Remona Renaurd, and Jim Bolton, and too, too many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren to count. In his loving capacity, he was always adding "adopted" children to his list. You didn't have to be blood to be his family.
