Charley Lee Jones, age 93, of Sardis, went to be with his Lord on June 24, 2009.
Charley was born in Ft. Townsend, Oklahoma to his parents Charley W. Jones and Inez Floyd. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corp. In his time with the army he was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, Siapan and Iwo Jima, and was honorably discharged in February of 1946.
Mr. Jones is survived by his children; Charles Jones (Martha) of Benton, Jimmie Jones (Janie) of Sardis and Alma Marie Diemer of North Little Rock. Grandchildren; Mark Jones (Karen), Gasha Brown (Steve), Sally Morphew (Jody) all of Benton and Gretchen Leech (Doug) of Little Rock and Jeri Lynn Sturch(Shawn) of Butlerville. He is also survived by his siblings; Thurman Jones of Mayflower, Orphelia Hood of Talco, Texas, Clifford Jones (Jean) of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Charlene Wesson of Winnsboro, Texas and Bill Jones (Bobbie Lee) also of Winnsboro, along with 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Charley is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years Alma (Achterberg) Jones, his parents and his brother, Raymond "Pee-wee" Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sardis United Methodist Mission Trip fund.
A celebration of Charley's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 27, 2009 at the Sardis United Methodist Church with Rev. Sue D. Howe officiating. Burial will follow at McPhearson Cemetery in Sardis.
Visitation will be held on Friday, from 6-8 p.m. at Dial & Dudley Funeral Home, 4212 Hwy 5 North Bryant, Arkansas. (501) 847-9099
