In Memory of Clinton "Mr. Matt" Cockrell Mathews

Clinton Cockrell Mathews, born on October 12, 1939, in Parkdale, Arkansas, and the eldest of six children, peacefully passed away on October 6, 2023, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was 83 years old.

Clinton is preceded in death by his late father, Archie Mathews Sr.; his late mother, Emma (Cockrell) Mathews; his daughter, Pam Sisson; and his wife, Arkie Tracy Mathews. He is also preceded in death by two of his sisters, Lela Bridges and Lyndia McClenahan.

Clinton served his country in the United States Air Force and was a proud veteran. He retired from Arkansas Power and Light/Entergy Corporation, where he was affectionately known as "Matt".   He was a skilled handyman and known for his craftsmanship in the Blue Grass parks.

Clinton is survived by his brothers, Archie Mathews Jr. of Duck Hill, MS, and Kenneth Mathews of Portland, AR, as well as his sister, Alma Sellers of Lake Village, AR. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Cindy Keisler of Bull Shoals, AR, and his stepson and caregiver, John and Sandra Tracy of Benton, AR.

Clinton leaves behind a host of grandchildren, extended family, and cherished friends.

Mr. Matt was loved by his family. He had a deep love for his wife, Arkie, and they shared countless memorable moments touring BlueGrass festivals, from Waldron, AR, to Atlanta, TX. His jovial nature meant he was never at a loss for words, and he never met a stranger. His warm presence and zest for life will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service is planned for Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan, AR.
