Obituary

Edward Henry Carter, Sr. 75, of Little Rock, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 7, 2009. He graduated from Phillips (TX) High School in 1951 then went on to receive a BS in Microbiology from Texas Tech and a Master of Environmental Science from the University of Oklahoma (1967).

Ed was a Navy Corp man during the Korean conflict, worked for NASA during the Gemini Missions and SkyLab, a Mason, a Shriner and a member of Christ Church. While with NASA, Ed was in Charge of the Mobile Microbiology Laboratory for immediate post-flight crew testing on the recovery ships for the last two SkyLab Missions, he handled Toxicity Testing of Apollo XV Lunar Core Material Extracts, and he developed and implemented the process for converting human liquid waste into consumable water for SkyLab and Apollo 17 Astronauts.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Monroe (Ted) and Sarah Isabell (Sally) Carter; and his loving wife of 46 years, Rosalynn Elizabeth Myers Carter. He is survived by one son, SSG. Edward Carter Jr. and his wife Manuela; one daughter, Celeste Knight and her husband, Darvin; Four grandchildren; Edward III (Trace) Carter, Samuel Carter, Madalyn (Maddy) Knight and Carter Knight; one brother Charles Marion (Bud) Carter and four nephews and nieces.

A gathering in remembrance will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

A celebration of Ed's life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Dial & Dudley Funeral Home 4212 Hwy 5 North, Bryant 501-847-9099.
