Earnest was born June 14, 1945 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Earnest E. Spickes, Sr., and Della Marie Layman. He was raised in Little Rock and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After finishing his service with the Navy he divided his time between being a painter, where he worked on the restoration of the Arkansas State Capitol building, Governor's Mansion, and historic homes throughout the Quapaw District, and being an ambitious small business owner.
Earnest will forever be remembered by his sisters Mary Ellen Spickes-Miller and Peggy Strange; daughter Susan Millholland of Benton; three sons, Jonathan Spickes (Rebecca) of Mayflower, Arkansas, Gus Spickes (Christa) of Mountain View, Arkansas, and Cory Spickes (Jessica) of Springdale, Arkansas; ten treasured grandchildren, Patrick and Jordan Burton, Emily and Kailee Spickes, Christopher Sade Jr., Chandler, Evan, Mason, Shiloh, and Addley Spickes; along with countless other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family whom were blessed to have known him. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ernest Aaron Spickes.
In his spare time Earnest enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, working with his hands, and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Earnest touched the lives of many people with his kindness and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, December 1st, 2015, at 3:00 PM with Brother Jim Chandler officiating.
