Farris Albert Hogue, Jr., 94, of Bryant, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

He was born in Newport, Arkansas on November 6, 1923.  He worked in his father's sawmill in McGehee, Arkansas where he also played on the McGehee Owls football team and met his future wife, Rose Marie Byrd.

Hogue served in the US Navy from January 1943 to January 1946, attaining the rank of Radioman Third Class.  He was a "Tin Can Sailor," proudly serving on the USS Conyngham, DD 371 for close to two years.  While aboard, he was part of a gun crew loading a 5" gun in action throughout the South Pacific campaign, and earned nine major battle stars.  He reunited nearly fifty years later with several of his closest shipmates and their families.

After the war, he attended Southern Methodist University on the GI Bill and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Insurance Administration.  He and Rose Marie eventually settled in Hazen, Arkansas in 1960, when he was offered a job by Farm Bureau as an insurance agent in Prairie County. He was Agency Manager there until his retirement in 1990.  Together, he and his wife raised three sons.

Hogue is survived by his wife, Rose Marie, his sons Farris III, Michael, and Paul; two daughters-in-law, Jelyn and Pam; three grandchildren, April, Dylan (Amber), and Jake (Brooke); two great-grandsons, Brannon (Makayla) and Nicholas, and many friends from his Benton coffee group.
