Fred Leroy Copus's Obituary
Fred LeRoy Copus of Bryant, AR, passed away on June 8, 2017. He was born September 8, 1944 to the late, Virgil Ivan and Ira Pauline Copus in Carnegie, Oklahoma.
As a boy growing up in Carnegie, OK, Fred was the first multiple Grand Champion Barrow winner at the Oklahoma Youth Expo (OYE) and was awarded many ribbons and trophies for his endeavors in FFA. He was a 1962 Carnegie Wildcats graduate. After high school, his interest turned to the dawning business of computers in which he had a long and successful career while living in Oklahoma City. In 2006, after 30plus years as a Data Base Manager for the Hertz Corporation, he retired to Arkansas to be close to his daughter and grandkids.
After settling down in Bryant, AR, he enjoyed morning conversation and companionship with the "coffee buddies" whose friendships he truly valued. He spent much of his retirement delightedly involved in the activities of his grandchildren.
Over the years, he was partial to listening to oldies music, riding his Goldwing motorcycles, socializing with his "Hertz family" and spending time with his best friend Darrell Burnett. He was an avid, lifelong Sooner fan that reveled in the many successes of Oklahoma University athletics (Go,go,go,go,Go).
Laurie and family wish to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of the St. Vincent Infirmary CCU. Their compassionate care for Fred and kindness to Laurie in his final days will always be appreciated and remembered.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving and forever grateful daughter, Laurie Baribeau and grandchildren, Rowdy and Ellie Baribeau. He is loved and will be truly missed by his brother, Allan Copus; niece, Jill Copus and family; and nephew, Mark Copus and family. He will be lovingly remembered by his extended family and a host of friends as a kind and sweet man.
Service will be held in his hometown of Carnegie, OK for which final arrangements are pending and will be updated here on further notice.
