IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jacqueline "Jackie"
Marie Haigwood
February 1, 1952 – January 2, 2024
Jacqueline "Jackie" Marie Haigwood was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 2, 2024 at age 71, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was born on February 1, 1952 in Los Angeles, California. However, we've always celebrated her birthday on February 2nd as there seems to have been a decades-long miscommunication regarding her actual birthdate. Jackie's birthday was and always will be celebrated on Groundhog's Day.
As a child, her family relocated from Los Angeles, California to Little Rock, Arkansas. After high school, she met and married Allen O'Dell Haigwood. While they were separated for decades, they remained married until his passing in 1998.
Jackie was mother to three children: Amanda, Bobby, and Heather. She raised them as a single mother. She worked physically taxing, labor intensive jobs to support her children on her own. She worked in factories, chemical waste incineration plants, salvage yards, and other "manly" fields to provide for her kids. Watching how hard Jackie worked and sacrificed every day, each of her children grew to develop a strong work ethic and they know the value of a hard day's work.
Hard work wasn't all there was to Jackie, though. She was extremely creative. She was well known for her candy making and sugar art. She made handmade jewelry, sewed, scrapbooked, and loved to draw. Her legendary cinnamon roll recipe is a closely guarded family secret. Those lucky enough to have had them beg for those rolls every holiday season.
She found joy in collecting things. She loved her little trinkets, tchotchkes, and unusual antique furniture. Her children often poked fun at her about the collections, but they were dear to her. She didn't want to let them go, even in the end.
Jackie was a lot of things in life, but above all things, she was loved. We will miss her cackling laugh, how ornery she could be, and the honest guidance she provided to all those lucky enough to know her. While we wish she could still be here with us, we are so thankful for the time we had with her.
We would like to especially thank Holly McPherson, Janice Harris, Danny Harris and Debbie Nevlin for taking care of our mother throughout hospice care. Words cannot express how grateful we are for the comfort, kindness, and compassion you provided for our mother. We love you.
Jackie is survived by her mother, Vernia Bias; father, James Bias; sister, Janice Harris (Danny); daughter, Amanda Ourso (Floyd); son, Bobby Haigwood; daughter, Heather Carmichael (Jacob); grandchildren: Seth, Dylan, Aidan, Sammy, Sophie, Trinity, Amira, Grayson, Alexander, Crashton, Isla, Carter, and Sirena; best friend and niece, Holly McPherson (Wesley); as well as many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Due to inclement weather, memorial services had to be postponed. A celebration of Jackie's life will take place in spring or summer 2024. We will make an announcement once plans have been finalized.
