Obituary

Jerry Wayne Harned, AKA "Dog" 62 of Little Rock passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice with his daughters at his bedside.  He was born October 17, 1959, to Loys "Edd" and Patricia Gary Harned.  Jerry was the third of ten children.  He grew up in the Fourche Dam Community whereas a kid he and friends tinkered with bikes, go-carts, played in the dirt with cars, (even at age 15!) built grass forts, and played baseball in the field behind the house.  Later his interests turned to motorcycles, four wheelers, packing the dirt at I-30 Speedway, racing cars on "Port Road", fishing, partying and raising hell!  Brothers and friends were subjected to some intense wrestling at times until "Dog" got too old!  He worked 31 years at Granite Mountain Quarry where he made life-long friends.  Jerry accepted Christ as his Savior at his own father's funeral in 2004.  One of his first jobs was a Gazette paperboy in the Richland neighborhood.  Occasionally, he was found asleep atop his apron full of rolled newspapers in someone's yard or on the curb!  So many of his antics, humor and times in the "Doghouse" were shared over this past week as we sat vigil with him and his daughters.  Their fondest memories are of fishing with him at the quarry, watching NASCAR races – he and Jennifer rooting for #6 Mark Martin and Jimbo and Jerri Kaye #3 Dale Earnhardt!  Jerry would cook for race day, and it was an all-day party!  Dear to their hearts also were times spent with family at gatherings.  One Christmas he dressed as Santa.  His heart went out to kids, people in everyday struggles.  He volunteered at Toy Hill gathering toys for Christmas, loaded supplies on trucks after Katrina, helped with clean up in East End after the '97 tornados and even as of last year, offered shelter to a young homeless man and his baby who were living in a car in the cold _ too good hearted!

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimbo; sisters, Barbara Cates and Annette Berney; brother-in-law, Kim Cates.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Jerri Kaye Harned "Jason" and Jennifer Taylor; brothers, Michael Duggan "Jennifer", and Ricky Duggan, brother-in-law, Donn Berney; sisters, Charlotte Powel, Julie Linn "Mike", Sandra Neely "John", Donna Null "Rick"; grandchildren, Stormey, Hunter, Amy, Alyssa, Aaron, Aleah; great grandchildren, Dustin, Colby and Hazel Grace is due September 2022 and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who all love him and will miss him dearly.
