Obituary

JW "Dub" Mabry, 75, of Benton, Arkansas passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Little Rock.  He was born November 10, 1943 to the late Elvin and Audra Mabry in Benton.

JW proudly served his country in the US Navy and was deployed to Vietnam.  Dub was a model of what it meant to be family by choice, not just by blood.  He loved "his girls" and showed them by example how to love and care for the people most important to them.  He stepped up and stepped in to be what they needed, including being the father figure for his granddaughter Te'a.

Papaw enjoyed road trip family vacations to anywhere there was desert – Tuscon, Arizona was his favorite.  He loved to watch the horses run, and he even once owned the racehorse "Golden Kite."  Outside was a favorite place to be, and he often could be found riding his lawn mower or gardening with the Jeep parked nearby blaring some favorite tunes!  His weenie dogs, Muffin and Maggie, were constant delights for him.

Dub was preceded in death by his parents; baby brother, AW; grandson, Larry Joseph Hicks; and father-in-law, Russell Nicklaus.

Surviving to keep dancing to his favorite songs are his wife of 35 years, Donna; "his girls" Stephanie Hicks (Larry) and Shelley Mabry;  three children:  Ricky, Bryan, Sherry; grandchildren: Tyler Hicks, Tanner Hicks, Te'a Mabry (Jim Tom Davis, Jr.), Ashley, and Samantha; brother, EJ Mabry (Deborah); mother-in-law, Jean Nicklaus; and sister-in-law, Teresa Thomas (Archie).

The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Dial & Dudley Funeral Home, Bryant, Arkansas with burial following at Social Hill Cemetery in Benton.  Pastor Don Meek will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M., Friday evening at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Jim Tom Davis, Jr., Pat Thornton, Doyle Hill, Eddie Greer Jr., Archie Thomas Jr., and Prentis Fields.
