Obituary

Lannie Everett Howell fell asleep at home on June 7, 2023, and woke up in the presence of The Lord. He cherished his 73 years on earth with family and friends and will be missed tremendously.

He was born Saturday, August 6, 1949, to Stacy Howell and Ellon Howell Turley in Searcy, AR.  Lannie was the oldest of six children: four sisters, Peggy, Nancy, Madonna, and Lisa; and one brother, Steve.  As they all grew up, he tried to be the best big brother possible to all of them and worked hard to be an important part of their lives and family.

He learned at an early age how to be an effective mover, moving at least once a year until he was about 13 when his family landed in Heber Springs.  Lannie lived an exciting life during the family's journey. His fondest memories included getting his first bicycle, swimming in the cold Pacific Ocean when he lived in Oregon as a young boy and getting his first gun (a single-shot 20 gauge) to go squirrel hunting.  As a teenager in Heber Springs, he spent many Sunday evenings and nights playing baseball or football, swimming, fishing, or playing cards with "the neighborhood gang" that he met at the church "down in the holler". He called this time period the best years of his childhood.  As a teenager, he started working on the family farm, learning lifelong skills that he passed along to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even the young men he mentored as owner/operator of Melvin Cloud Moving Company.  But, his greatest work was his family.

He met Linda Grace Willis when his family moved down the hill from her family. They spent several years as teenagers getting to know one another.  Before they knew it they decided to start their lives together and married each other the first Saturday after his 18th birthday on August 12, 1967.  Lannie's first job to support his new wife was building the dam in Conway.  Lannie and Linda were quickly joined by two girls, Senna and Teresa, and later by two boys, Clinton and Matthew.  During their years, the family worked together to build a life in Heber Springs and later in the Benton area with a brief stint out in Oregon.  Lannie worked hard early in his family life at various jobs, eventually landing a job with Reynolds in Bauxite where he spent 17 years working hard to provide for his family.  After deciding to leave the comfort of being employed, he bought the Melvin Cloud Moving Company to chart his own destiny. For nearly three decades, he helped an untold number of people transition from one stage in life to the next, whether they were families moving or businesses needing his professional skills in moving equipment from one location to another.  During this time, his family grew as well to include sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, twelve grandchildren and their spouses, and four great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son Clint, and grandson Grant Calvin.  He is survived by his daughter Senna (Jason) Howell, his daughter Teresa (David) Weston, his son Matthew (April) Howell; grandchildren Chance (Jessica), Andrew (Maegan), Olivia (Tanner), and Sophia Tilley, and London Howell (Baylor); Clayton, Kevin (Tiffany), and Kate Weston (Drew); Joshua Howell; Alexandria and Logan Howell; great-grandchildren Callie Weston, Levi, Conner, and Samuel Tilley; sisters Peggy (Patton) Haycraft, Nancy Jumper, Madonna Strickland, and Lisa Davis; and brother Steve (Phyllis), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other wonderful family and friends.

Celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. with the visitation held one hour prior at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home. Burial to follow at 3:00 P.M. at Everett Cemetery in Prim, Arkansas.
