IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lindsay "Lin"
C. Dodge
June 11, 1934 – November 7, 2022
Born June 11, 1934, in East Prairie, Missouri, Lindsay C. "Lin" Dodge was the son of a sharecropper farmer and housewife. He spent his adolescent years helping his father on the farm chopping and picking cotton and corn by hand. He would tell us how hard of a job that was and how he thought he was a dumb kid because when other children were in school, he was working in the farm fields.
Uncle Sam came a calling, and in 1955 he left the farm and entered the United States Air Force attending basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. On his first trip to the "Mess Hall" he was overwhelmed by the amount of food available saying that he had never seen so much food in his life. After basic training, he was sent to "Tech School" at Lowry AFB, Colorado. Once training was completed there, Lin was transferred to Bushy Park Air Field, Middlesex, England. It was there that he met the woman that he would spend the rest of his life with, Maureen. They married in 1957 and were eventually transferred to England Air Force Base, Louisiana where their first son Shane was born. Shortly thereafter, he was sent to the remote Japanese island of Okinawa for 18 months. Upon his return home, the young family was sent to Dyess Air Force Base, Texas and finally to Loring Air Force Base, Maine, where they welcomed their second son Steve.
Lin left the Air Force in 1967 and moved the family to Little Rock, Arkansas where his parents and siblings had relocated. He also started working for Orbit Valve that year as a machinist. A couple of years later his only daughter Sherri was born. He would retire from Orbit Valve in 1999 as a tool and die maker.
He was an avid hunter, but over the past few years got more enjoyment out of watching deer than hunting them. While in the Air Force, he was considered one of their top marksmen winning numerous competitions in both pistol and rifle matches.
Lin made a promise to the Lord in 1959, when Shane was gravely ill, that if He would save his son, he would serve Him. Upon moving to Little Rock, he became a member of Gospel Assembly Church where he listened, learned, and preached the Word. When time came for a new church, he was one of the many members that volunteered their time to help with construction, often stopping by after working his shift at Orbit Valve. He continued to read his Bible until he was called up on November 07, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lindsay R. Dodge and Ethel N. "Jackson" Dodge, and brothers Dale K. Dodge, Adon London, Robert Dodge and James E. "Jim" Dodge.
Lin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maureen "Kennell" Dodge; sons, Shane Dodge and wife Bonnie; Steve Dodge and wife Nita and daughter, Sherri McGowan. Sister Jackie Stogsdill and brother David M. "Mike" Dodge and wife Peggy. Grandchildren; LaShane Dodge, Nathan E. McGowan, ShaVonne Stine, Nick Dodge, Kyle McGowan, Jonathan Dodge, Courtney Risner and Ashley McGowan. Great grandchildren; Zachary Stine, Oliver Turner, Oaklee Sales, Weston Risner and Lily McGowan.
A visitation and memorial will be held on Tuesday, November 15th, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home in Bryant, Arkansas.
