IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roger Lee
Chesney
May 5, 1947 – January 25, 2024
Retired SSG Roger Lee Chesney, 76, passed away peacefully at Southern Trace Rehabilitation and Care Center in Bryant, Arkansas. Roger was a thirty-year veteran of the Army and served state-side during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg, in North Carolina.
Roger was born on May 5, 1947, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Levi Chesney and Myrtle Roberta McColloch Chesney, Little Rock; his sister, Nelda Jo Chesney Newby, North Little Rock; and his brother-in-law, Carlton Rae Newby, North Little Rock. He is survived by his niece, Molly Newby (Chris) Banister, North Little Rock; great-nephew Joseph (Emily) Dalessio, Sherwood; great-niece, Lacy Dalessio, Mobile, Alabama; and great-niece, Nicole Banister (Brandon) Seuzeneau, Gulf Breeze, Florida.
Roger was a 1965 graduate of Mabelvale High School. He enlisted in the Army on April 3, 1966, shortly after the United States entered the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1996 after also serving in the Army Reserve and Army National Guard. In addition to other awards, he received the Humanitarian Service Medal and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon.
After returning to Little Rock, Roger worked at the Arkansas Farm Bureau and spent many years traveling the state as a Network Engineer. When Roger wasn't working or traveling for work, he loved to play golf or play cards with friends.
Due to a childhood illness of Rheumatic Fever that damaged his heart, Roger suffered strokes and heart attacks that required him to spend many of his last years in a rehabilitation or nursing facility. Ed Person, one of his golfing buddies, was always there to make sure that Roger had the care that he required and that all of his medical appointments were met. Family and friends would like to thank Ed for his constant and unwavering attention to Roger's care.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. sharp at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
Funeral services arranged by Dial and Dudley Funeral Home. Online guestbook: www.dialdudleyfuneralhome.com .
