Sammy Michael Priest was born on Thursday, February 2nd, 1950, and passed on Sunday, July 28th, 2024, at age 74.

He is predeceased by his parents, Fay Edward and Virginia (Butler) Priest; along with his siblings, Ginger Harris, and Tony and Dale Priest. He also will be reunited in heaven with his daughter, Rayna. Oh, what a beautiful reunion.

Sammy is survived by his children, Jason Priest, Shawn Harris, and Rhiannon Evans; along with his grandchildren, Sophie, Dominic, Gracie, and Jackie. Papa Sam will surely be watching over you all now. Left to cherish their memories of him are his remaining siblings, Charles (Sandra) Priest, David (Pam) Priest, and Kelli Priest Wyatt. Though, another link in our family chain has been taken, we know that in God's time we will all be reconnected with a bond stronger than ever.

Sam was also blessed to have the love of true friends who were there for the laughs and the tears.

Sammy was a proud veteran, a skilled mason, and a very talented self-taught musician. He found solace in his music and enjoyed sharing his talent with others. He loved the cheering crowds, and he loved the quiet days in the park. He had a big tender heart that loved to feed stray animals and buy fresh flowers to take to his late momma. He was a free spirit and, yes, at times very restless; he was here one minute and gone the next. Earning himself the nickname, "Sudden Sam."

We will surely miss our "Sudden Sam," but we know that he is now at peace. We are left with our memories of him, and when they "suddenly" come to mind, we will smile because we have him back, if only for a little while.

The family wishes to thank those that chose to be with him during his final days, and Gentiva Hospice for their brief, but comforting care.

We will be celebrating Sammy's life with a visitation on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home.

The United States Military Honor Team will be performing at 12:00 P.M. to properly close his service in recognition of his life and the time he served for his country.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
