Obituary

Sharon Burke Houlette, 65, of Benton, Arkansas, passed away on April 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Hammond, Indiana, Sharon made Benton her home in 1997. She dedicated nearly 30 years of her life to law enforcement as a police officer and detective at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where she served with strength, integrity, and compassion.

Sharon's greatest joy came from her family, whom she loved fiercely throughout her life. She was a devoted mother, proud grandmother, and loving wife. She is survived by her husband of 13 years, David Houlette, who has been her partner since 2006. She is preceded in death by her parents Paul Burke, Lynn Smith, and Leon Smith, as well as her sister Sandy Skinner and nephews David Skinner and Hayden Bell. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Burke, and step-sister Desiree Bell, as well as her children: Jeremiah Johnson of Palmer, Alaska, daughter-in-law Sara, and grandchildren Jordan, Kadence, and Taylor Johnson. Her son, Isaiah Johnson of Benton, and her grandson, Isaiah Johnson Jr, who lived with her and Dave from the ages of 7 to 17. Her son, Chad Morgan, of Oklahoma City. Her daughter, Sabrina Bowles Strickland, of Centerton. Her daughter, Samantha Bowles Robinson of Centerton, son-in-law Matthew, and grandchildren Patrick and Olive Robinson. And her stepdaughter, Kristin Houlette, of Little Rock.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Kristi and Gary Brewer, Julia, Kylie, and Brennan; Amanda Lawson, Andrew, Brooklyn, and Courtlynn; Jennifer Lawson, Ryan Lawson, Levi Mason; and Hunter and Kaitlin Bell.

Sharon had a love for the outdoors—camping, fishing, floating the Buffalo River, and being among nature brought her peace and happiness. She loved her pets, caring for countless dogs, cats, fish, and even chickens in her lifetime.

She loved to cook for her family, always making sure everyone had a seat at the table and a full plate. As a young adult, she enjoyed sports and played softball, bowling, darts, and pool. While pursuing her career and raising her family, Sharon took the opportunity to seek an education in studio arts at the university.

Sharon worked tirelessly to raise and provide for her family. She rose above the difficulties in her life and ensured her children had the tools, love, and support to grow and succeed. Their successes brought many of them across the country to build loving families of their own.

Sharon's legacy is one of strength, sacrifice, and love—a life fully lived and deeply cherished. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 10:00 am at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to gather after the service at Sharon and Dave's home in Benton.
